When Atari ask for banners, it is because the ones they have are shit and they know that much better can be done. Much better was done! Initially this was just a localisation job but because the banners were so utterly shite, they asked me to come up with a new Art Direction.

Considering this was an internal project, we didn’t come off too badly! I spent about 6 months on and off making the site, which was finally put live at the end of 2004. The map thing on the top left was borrowed from a website made back in 2000 for a quake3 mod I ran called GTP.

Probably one of the best looking games ever to reach interactive TV. I doodled the board out in Flash MX (it’s really handy for geometric stuff) Then Glam’ed it up in Photoshop, I guess it looks a bit like a 24bit speedball2 table. The front screen was rendered in Lightwave from a sketch by my tallented artist John.

The result of various itterations, the client was happy with a sort of Dr.Mario style game, with little nasties to squish. Originally I went for a 50’s cartoon style, however not to the clients taste I later sketched out a suitable design for my tallented artist (John Godwin) to paint in photoshop.

Whee! Sexy Girls!
Pretty much an open ended brief on this one, te client just wanted a “Pachinko” game, however as most current sky boxes’ hardware doesn’t support five thousand balls flying around the screen, we were given license to rip off a mechanism that had been on another games channel.
Anyway, I got an excuse to shove manga babes and Japanese text into the game, so I couldn’t care a less what mechanism it used because the art hit the jackpot 1st time!

With such fantastic artwork, it’s sometimes a struggle to keep it pure and really show off the art in the best way possible. This was a success!

Some serious “Darkness” inspired Glam Rock here!
I made the majority of the art in Flash then over to photoshop for some filters etc. Possibly one of my favorite projects at Babel and for this client, as with iTV projects I got about 2 weeks to work at my leisure and do a proper job on the art.

The artwork from this game was so lovely, little was needed from me to preserve and display, more of a curator than designer on this one, it seemed.

One of many strangely named games that we produced for Nation217, and somewhat inspired by our coder Marc Coupar! The basic idea of the game is to climb up a rock face and collect eggs. I wanted an adventurous feel to it, mixed with a Toriyama inspired character for the front screen, skillfully this was all drawn by my new artist Mat.

Although I ended up art directing this game, my original art was never used. This was mostly down to the clients (then) fickle nature of deciding what style they wanted. They went on to have vastly different styles for each game.
