Blu-Ray Apple

Long awaited next mac mini, and how it may use blu-ray drives.

Apple TV is dead before it even left the shelf

Apple TV has arrived, but it has a few flaws. These flaws are virtually un-noticable in the current technology market.

The device will only support 720p HD at the maximum, whereas Blu-ray is a true full HD format, supporting upto 1080p. The difference being? 1080p is the highest standard currently available on the consumer market, with prices tumbling on FullHD televisions by the minute, 1080p will soon be the desired format, this is where Blu-ray fits in neatly. A graph showing 1080p and 720p conparisons can be found here.

injury

13th of Mar, 2007ce* in: diary

I managed to fall of my bike yesterday evening, after colliding with a post.

My left foot, both wrists and my chin (!) are a bit worse for ware. I actually landed on my chin and hands when my foot got trapped by one of these ridiculous metal bollards on the street near me. Lucky I didn’t land on my teeth, like a friend of mine once experienced.

Irony is, I can’t walk on my foot at all, but riding my bike is no problem!

Our Earth is Growing?!

6th of Mar, 2007ce* in: blog

Something I have always been curious about, as I’ve never really believed how Tectonic Plates follow the Pangea theory (that plates drift).

Even since a child in my Geography class, I thought something was up so I raised it with my teacher “Mr Hankins”. I must have been about 13 years old.

Science has a habit of holding onto ideas that just don’t make sense. I think this is a perfect candidate for letting go. It also neatly explains how dinosaurs got so big, combining a smaller earth with less gravity would easily let them swell to gargantuan sizes. (although this is not mentioned in the video.)

Ikea part 2

3rd of Mar, 2007ce* in: diary

Took a trip down to Ikea in Yokohama today, and to my surprise they use HP display computers!

Way back in November 2004 I bought myself a HP laptop, only for it to fry it’s self some 14 months later ( Buy / I lost a year of diary entries so the Fry moan is gone)

So while traversing the maze of Ikea, doing my best not to get annoyed by the hordes of happy love birds, my earlier Ikea post came to mind. In that entry I mulled over the idea that maybe it would make sense for Ikea and Apple Inc to team up, selling iMacs from Ikea. Looks like HP have got in on the act!

However the irony of my tale is this; The HP display model they used is the very same one that failed on me, plus thousands of other un-happy zd7000 owners. Which, more amazingly, is not sold or serviced by HP Japan!

When my HP went “kaput!” back in February 2006, I tried my hardest to get it fixed here in Japan, HP told me that this model is unsupported outside of the European and North American territories. I guess all those cases in Ikea are from the returns they had, because the laptop was seriously flawed in it’s design, as recently admitted by HP. I eventually sold mine on Ebay to a computer repair shop for a 1/3rd of the new price.

In Japan it was interesting to see “european” rooms mocked up.
Felt a bit like Sarah in Labyrinth when she returns to her fake home.
